The Road Traffic Office of the canton of Aargau has its head office with counter hall and inspection halls in Schafisheim (Länzert 2) – after the 2025 renovation one of Switzerland's most modern inspection sites, with capacity for up to 600 vehicles per day. Theory tests take place exclusively in Aarau; practical driving exams offer a free choice of site in Schafisheim, Wettingen or Rheinfelden. Slots are booked exclusively online via IDISPO. In the canton of Aargau you register for theory and practical exams exclusively online via IDISPO – there is no phone or written registration. For the practical exam you choose freely between the Schafisheim, Wettingen and Rheinfelden sites.
Login details arrive by post with the registration slip after your learner-permit application. Bring the physical learner permit to the practical exam – the eLFA alone is not sufficient.

The canton's contact page shows a live waiting-time display. Note: the counter hall is being refurbished until approx. the end of August 2026 – expect longer waits.
Where do I sit the theory test in Aargau?
Exclusively at the Aarau exam site (Hintere Bahnhofstrasse 6, Bahnhof Süd office building) – several times a week plus one Saturday morning per month. Schafisheim only hosts individual theory tests. Booking is online-only via IDISPO.

No – you must bring the original physical learner permit to the practical exam; the eLFA alone is not sufficient.

The inspection costs CHF 58 per 20-minute unit; slots can be rescheduled online up to 5 times.
Is there a winter break for motorcycle exams in Aargau?
Yes, practical motorcycle exams pause from approx. November to March. The office recommends booking your slot 4–6 weeks ahead.
